I love snow!!

For all who may not know, it is snowing in Seattle!! Sure we may only get an inch, but it is a wonderful inch. I love looking outside an seeing a blanket of white on the ground. Now it really feels like Christmas and I should have full rights to sing all of the carols that I want to. I love snow!!

Things I Learned in High School Spanish Class

Surprisingly, it wasn't Spanish (many of you can attest to that!). But I did come away with a few gems that are still relevant.

1. I know what a gerand is. If you didn't know, it is a word that ends with -ing. Its not the most useful thing to have at your fingertips on a daily basis, but it does make me feel quite a bit smarter than I did before I knew it. Plus, I can say dorky esoteric phrases like "Interesting use of a gerand there..." and laugh uproariously while every one is silent.

2. Penultimate. It means the next to last. This was the subject of several hour long tangental rants, but when some one used it in class the other day, I thought back to Senora and had a happy reminder of those days where we could just goof off for an hour.

3. Oh there was another one, but in my post thanksgiving, sluggish, sleeping mood and I need to go to sleep.

(Sorry for the delay in posts, its the holidays, family, lots of activities...etc)

I am proud of my classmates!

I had a great moment today! True, there are some in my life that would call my reaction over sentimental and bordering on chick flick-iness, C! But it was fantastic. There are some of my classmates who are forming an acapella singing group. (I happen to love acapella, by the way). Well today, they performed a song for us today at the beginning of our class. They aren't professionals yet, but they were pretty darn good. But here was the cool part: every single person in our class whooped, clapped, and stood for them when they were done. It was a perfect picture of solidarity and support for our classmates. We should all feel good that these people will be doctors, they have great hearts!

A dose of goodness in the world goes a long way in making my heart feel great.

Tuesday Night Thoughts

Luckily the day is looking up considerably but here are a few things that have been on my mind, etc...

1. Seeing people I went to high school with...So being back in Seattle is giving me plenty of opportunities to see people from 5 years ago. It has happened to me twice this week already and both at school. One of the times, I made the mistake of approaching one of them, someone who was actually a friend, and go this "Oh...hi...I'm running really late, sorry!" Ouch! Oh well, if I really wanted to still be in contact I would. Coincidentally I have seen this same person again, but I did not repeat my mistake. And then today I saw someone else from H.S. Fear not, I kept my greeting to myself and was not recognized. I like to think it is because I am infinitely more beautiful than I was in high school, but I know better than that. I am probably still surprised at the novelty and everyone who went to UW for their undergrad has gotten over it.

2. For weeks, my mom and I have been bemoaning the big change in our favorite show, Gilmore Girls. But yesterday, the New York Times has corroborated our feelings (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/07/arts/television/07heff.html?em&ex=1163048400&en=d0a14ba813e53ba3&ei=5087%0A). Even they agree that the show has changed big time since last year. The tone has changed, the stories have changed, the Luke/Lorelei situation is so messed up. The point of the first five seasons was to get them together and now the "new" team has ruined it all. And what about Lane? Suddenly she is pregnant and losing her character and hasn't even been on the show in weeks? What has happened to my GG?? Thank goodness I have seasons 1-5 to soothe my pain.

3. Interesting question to ponder: how is it that I put a plate in the microwave to heat up my dinner and it came out searing hot and the food was cold? It is almost reminiscent of the Borders burn that prompted me to quit my worst job ever (that I was coincidentally horrible at, just ask my mom).

Ok, enough for today.

And you though you had rough Monday mornings?

Here is a small snapshot of my Monday morning. Its pretty bad. The only thing that saves it, is that I am now sitting in the school library and have apparently survived the whole experience. But I put this out there for all of you to enjoy thoroughly.

Let me tell you a story. It starts with me pursuing a good opportunity and ends with everything being alright but it was sure hairy in between. So there is an opportunity to serve as computer support for the docs at one of our hospitals while they transition to a new electronic medical record. I will eventually need to use it myself and it is a good way to network and learn my way around a really complicated place. So everything sounds good right? Today was my first day. Here is what happened:
1. My alarm goes off at 5:15. Did I mention that this all started at 7?
2. Suki (my cat) spent the weekend at my parents house and apparently did little else than eat so she is feeling extremely sloggy and acting funny,
3. I didn't have any cereal. I NEED cereal like a caffeine addict needs coffee, need I say more?
4. It is raining and windy and generally a monsoon outside and I had to walk 9 blocks to pick up the shuttle in the dark at 6:15. And my umbrella broke.
5. The shuttle is so late that I am just glad to get on it when it does come
6. Did I mention it was the WRONG shuttle? The shuttle makes a loop between the school and this other hospital and I managed to get on the school-bound shuttle not the other hospital-bound shuttle.
7. I am now at least 25 minutes late. I don't have anyone's phone number, and I still need to get an ID badge before I start.
8. The ID badge office doesn't open until 8
9. I find someone who gets me a badge (lone bright spot)
10. I manage to find the phone number of the office coordinator who is in her car. She tells me to go to their empty office and page the guy I am supposed to be shadowing.
11. Ironically, I end up paging him from his own phone. Uh oh, do I answer the phone when it rings? What if it isn't for me?
12. I finally get to the meeting place, wet, wind blown, with an ugly ID, and late. Very late, like an hour late.
13. Everyone is very understanding and they take me on a tour and I proceed to get very very lost.
14. And I was 45 minutes late to my afternoon class because I got messed up on the schedule. So I had to walk in to a classroom full of students while the professor is lecturing.

Someone shoot me, please.

My Civic Duty

Today I mailed my ballot. I heard it said once that we do not have a right to complain unless we participate. I will not digress too much on the fact that I had to pay $0.63 to mail my ballot (shouldn't voting be free?).

I have voted, have done my civic duty, and earned by right to complain.

Have you?
